3/20-3/23

Thursday after class Hannah, Jillian and I went to Trimmings. I am jealous because both of these girls are crafty and can sew. I went along with them just for fun and was so glad I did! I could not even believe the store and all the different ribbons and trims. The store was downstairs in a building where you have to be "buzzed" in. I was getting overwhelmed with all the choices (even though I wasn't picking anything out). I took some pictures because I want to remember this store and what it was like! We went into a second store after and I took pictures of all the sequins there.

Every box was full of trims

Huge Tassle

After religion we watched the BYU basketball game!

On Friday we had our Legal London Walk. Here are some pictures from the walk.
Statue Liberty (Court House).

This church across the street has a tunnel that connects to the court. Years ago priests would travel through the tunnel to go visit those who were at the court. They would visit those that were about to be executed.

St. Bartholomew's hospital (this hospital is used in Sherlock)

Telephone booth in front of hospital with Sherlock references all over it...wish I knew more about Sherlock.

The ceiling of the open air meat market

To get an idea of how we do our walks. We usually use a book but finally this week got SMART! We decided to map it out on-line and then follow it. The book is a bit outdated and hard to follow!

The London Silver Vaults were neat. I did not know much about them so was surprised when we walked down stairs and it led to a whole bunch of corridors and rooms. These rooms had cases full of jewelry, dishes, and decor. People can come down in the vaults and buy these items. Every night the vaults are locked up.
After the walk we went home and hurried to get ready to go the London, England temple (really located in Newchapel, Surrey). It is the 12th operating temple. This temple is where members from Wales, the Channel Islands, Southern parts of England, and Northern parts of France attend. This was optional so a group of about 12 of us went. One of the local wards was also going. It was an hour train ride to get there. Then we took a taxi to the temple. The temple was pretty (I feel like they all are beautiful)!

On Saturday we went to a Rugby Match at Wembley Stadium. We had ordered tickets on-line (cheapest ones). We entered the stadium and could not believe our seats! 6th row! This was my first time every watching Rugby ( I still don't understand everything....but plan on looking it up on Wikipedia, should have looked it up beforehand). There was a huge crown, world record breaking attendance. The two teams were the Saracens and the Harlequins.

Mascot is a Camel....first time I have scene a camel mascot.

Sunday I went to church. Primary was crazy as usual! We played a fun game that one leader had prepared. The kids got to pop balloons that were tacked up on the wall. Then they had a slip of paper with the song we were supposed to sing. One boy was begging me to let him play Temple Run on my phone. It was a constant battle the entire time...note to self: never let them see my phone out of my purse. He started pinching my arm and pulling my pony tail all of primary. I just let him...it wasn't worth the fight. I taught the older class of about 8. I have learned to practice patience in everything I do while teaching primary. I love it but it hasn't been easy. Many of the children in primary act out and do not listen. I understand that three hours of church is tough, but some of these children try to take advantage of every silent moment in class. If I stop talking just to breathe the class turns to chaos. I really have to gather my thoughts and allow no time for any silence! Today I did something that worked like magic. I started the lesson and at one point asked them to turn to a scripture only 2 of the 8 children did. I pulled out a big red bag of chocolate and handed a piece to the 2 kids who had their scriptures out. I thanked them and then placed the bag of candy on the table and continued teaching. I have never seen the class get so quiet and "good". It was hilarious. I continued teaching and about ten minutes later decided to give a few more candies out for good behavior. By the end of the class everyone got candy (I couldn't only give half the class candy that is awful and way too mean!). There is the sweetest elderly lady who plays the organ. She is so cute and giggles as she plays. She gave us a box of chocolates today. Last week she gave one of the girls shower gel, even wrapped in cute floral paper. The main teacher of the older class (when we aren't there) told me she has something for us. She went out to her car and came back with four paper sacks. In each sack was a juice, a water, two apples, and three cookies. These people really are the sweetest! I love every experience and opportunity I have here!
